Material first, then mason
Most masonry enquiries arrive as a shape — a terrace, a wall, a set of steps — when the decision that actually governs the quote is the material and the method. Full-colour bluestone or thermal. Dry-laid or mortared on a slab. Lime mortar or Portland, which on an early-19th-century Sag Harbor wall is not a matter of preference. We ask about that first, because a mason who is superb at one is often simply not the person for the other.
About the name
There is a stone-veneer product sold under a "Sag Harbor" name, and there are excellent stone yards and masons in the village whose names look like ours. We are not connected to any of them, we do not manufacture or sell stone, and nothing on this site should be read as their work or their prices.
What we look for in a mason
A current Suffolk County Home Improvement Contractor license, liability and workers' compensation insurance, local references, and finished work we can go and look at in the material you want. Repointing an 1840s brick chimney and setting a thermal bluestone pool deck want different hands and different habits; we choose by the work in front of us.
What it costs you
Nothing. Participating masons pay us a referral fee for the introduction; you pay the mason for the work, on their quote. Your details are never sold on.

We publish ranges by material and method with the sources attached, so a quote can be read against something. Where a figure is national rather than local, or where good sources disagree, we say which.
